Street Photography Meetup

Street Photography Meetup

Saturday the 23rd of October
Civic - 2.00pm - 2 hours
Street photography encompasses a wide range of genres, and this week we'll be looking at how you can use different crops and compositions to tell a story about the local area through your camera. At this meetup, we will practise the basics of street photography by capturing candid images in an urban setting as we explore the city centre on a photo walk. By the end of this event, you will be more familiar with: - Thinking about context, cropping and composition. - The effects of different shooting modes on capturing that 'decisive moment'. (When to use AV, M, or TV mode) - Guidelines for shooting other people and their property in the real world.

About

Come along to our photo sessions to dust off your camera and get snap-happy with a professional photography instructor.
Brush up on your camera skills and learn new photography techniques whilst on a photo walk class with other local keen photographers!

We run two hour photography sessions based on a photography theme/technique/style and they take place in various locations across the region.
New to photography? We also run a popular 3 hour Beginners Guide to Photography Class once a month.
And once in a while we will run special niche 3 hour classes, for example, Astrophotography - so do subscribe to our newsletter to know when the next one is!

Who can attend? Open to all skill levels, from beginners to keen amateurs. The photography instructor is there to help you with camera settings and provide any advice you need.

What to bring? We recommend bringing a camera that has full manual mode or semi-manual modes (Aperture or Shutter Priority). Compact cameras and smartphones also welcome!

The meeting point and full details for the day are sent in the booking confirmation email to the email address you provide at time of booking.

Join the Canberra Photography Facebook Group here to share your photos after the session.

We ask that everyone attending a meetup follows social distancing guidelines:

Stay home if you're sick.
Keep 1.5 metres away from others.
Don't make unnecessary physical contact with others. Avoid physical greetings, such as handshakes, hugs and kisses.
Wash your hands regularly with alcohol-based sanitiser.
Cover your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze. Use a flexed elbow or a tissue; if you use a tissue, dispose of it immediately and appropriately.

Good event. Good ideas about the technical use of Photoshop. The multiple versions of PS and the variety of different skills of the students can make the class challenging for the instructor. However Jackie was great providing individual advice for the circumstances of each student.

Jackie really knows what he’s doing and was able to help me achieve a basic level of understanding of Lightroom and photoshop which is what I was after

Great advice, I was so nervous that I forgot some of my basics but Peter didn't mind at all. He was patient and after 10minutes I had my confidence and got great results. I would happily do another course with Peter.

Atharva was listening, giving appreciation to individual pictures and encouraging to go beyond the average picture. I definitely learnt more on my camera with that session.

Locations are easy to find. Instructor is very helpful and gives one-on-one time to explain the process, help with camera settings and extra tips for the technique of the workshop. Extra links sent via email are a great reference for future photoshoots. Meeting other like minded attendees in this kind of setting is ideal. I come away from each meetup learning something new!
